Snow Tire

(Click on the picture for a larger, clearer image.)

Another photograph from yesterday's trip to the beach. I'm newly in love with overcast days.

some how, this did not show up on my monitor the same as the first time I looked at it - but I did like it, I liked it as much as the rose hip photo.

I dunno, maybe I'm thinking way too deeply about this, but this picture makes me sad.

I can just imagine how this old, ratty wheel used to be a strong, fully inflated tire. In its youth, it showed off its well-defined treads and fresh rubber smell with pride. Maybe it even sported a shiny chrome wheel cover that had a BMW logo, marking it as part of the automobile elite while it chauffeured CEOs and celebrities...

Or maybe it flashed around one of those gaudy, spinning rims and was part of a "gangsta's" entourage. Maybe late at night it would cruise the inner-city areas, leaving streak marks on the road while its owner blasted rap music out the windows of the black Cadillac Escalade...

Or maybe it wore a modest, aluminum hubcap. Maybe it carried parents and children on road trips or to school plays, soccer practices, and graduations...

Or maybe it had no decoration at all. Maybe it was strapped to the side of a tugboat and lived a solitary life of sailing from harbor to harbor, up and down the Atlantic coast through foggy early mornings and vivid sunsets…

But then one way or another, it gets worn out--it runs over a nail one too many times, a rival gang slashes its side in a fit of rage, the family teenager totals the car after a night of heavy partying, or a violent storm causes the tugboat to ram into a shore of sharp rocks. After years of its loyal service, the tire's owner abandons it on beach where it sits alone with only its physical injuries and mutilations as souvenirs of its adventuring days…

*laughs* Okay, so this probably wasn't what you were looking for when you asked people to comment on the picture, but I don't know that much about photography and I didn't want to just put: "This photo looks neato." *shrugs* It is an interesting photo, though.
